I became aware of Hope, Steps and a Cure after my sister Sheila was diagnosed with aplastic anemia in 2007. Sheila became ill very suddenly. She was told her body was unable to replenish her platelets and her illness was life threatening. And, our entire family was at a loss of how to help or what to do. Not only didn’t we know anything about aplastic anemia, but, a lot of medical providers didn’t know a lot about it either. It was a very scary and frightening time for us. Sheila received amazing treatment at UCLA and after an incredible long and brave battle, she began to respond to the medicines and her health began improving. She continues to take medicine, and, probably will the rest of her life. She is healthy now, and for that we are very grateful.
