’Think long-term, avoid emerging markets’ #invest #equities #Pictet

Investors should steer clear of emerging market equities and focus on developed markets, according to a senior private banker. Mr Christophe Donay, the Geneva-based head of asset allocation at Pictet Wealth Management, tells The Sunday Times: "We consider the emerging world a source of risks, rather than a source of returns." He explains that the Bank of China has not managed to control credit growth, which is increasing 5 per cent faster than expansion in the nominal gross domestic product. "This means that this 5 per cent of liquidity or credit excess is going somewhere, creating disequili-brium, if not, maybe a bubble somewhere," says Mr Donay, who was in town for client meetings.
