The Myth of Overnight Success
I was watching Shark Tank the other night and heard Mark Cuban say that it took him 10 years to become an overnight success. And I laughed when I heard it, but I haven’t been able to forget it. Because in our culture where we can follow so many people (famous or otherwise) and social media gives us the beautiful ability to curate a life that we want to share with the world, we usually only see the end of their story. We fill in the blanks about how they got to where they are and assume it came easily for them. We get frustrated when we’re spending days and weeks and months putting in hard, unseen work for something we assume was been handed to someone else – but we never take the time to hear their story.
