If over-drying is an issue, first take a look at your cleanser. Bar soaps and foam cleaners are more drying than cream cleansers. Additionally, some foam cleansers (though not all – LATHER Ultra Mild Face Wash is made to foam without stripping) contain astringents, which strip skin of oil in order to tighten – but the alcohol they contain can dry you out. Ingredients in foam cleansers can also sometimes be harsh and irritating. Creams are generally formulated to moisturize rather than strictly combat oils.
