David Haupert is a wonderful volunteer for AA&MDSIF who planned a very successful fundraising and awareness event. This is his story, in his own words: This past November, eleven friends and family members joined my wife and I in running the Napa Valley Harvest 5K, 10K, & Half Marathon to raise money for, and awareness about, bone marrow failure disease. We did this because my wife, Mary, is an inspiring, warrior woman who has battled both aplastic anemia and PNH . Mary was diagnosed with severe aplastic anemia in 2004 and chose an experimental treatment (high dose Cyclophosphamide with GCSF growth factor) at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland. She recovered from the treatment and disease so quickly that, according to her, “I had a renewed sense of self and felt that life around me was illuminated , having a beauty that I’d never seen before.
